I love the book "What would Jesus Do".    I love the bracelets.  We need more of them, but the title of this blog is not meant to stand for What would Jesus Do? but What would Jimmy Do?  In this case I'm not asking what would Jesus Christ do but what would Jimmy Carter do if he were president and Dennis Rodman came back from North Korea and said pick up the phone and call your enemy.  Based on his post- presidential record I think he would pick up more than a phone.  He would pick up Dennis, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird and fly with them to North Korea for a pick up game on his enemy's home court.  No armed guard.  No weapons.  Just autographed basketballs.

This is a missed opportunity.  The leader of North Korea stuck his neck out and offered an olive branch and our government spit on it.  No wonder we have the rhetoric we have now about pre-emptive nuclear strikes.  Where is Henry Kissinger when we need him?  It's possible Hilary would have been able to get the President to reconsider but apparently Mr. Kerry doesn't have the vision or weight to do so.

Our country is not perfect.  In fact it is very hypocritical.  Calling on others to turn to democracy and risk their country's stability while you have established a political base within a "democratic" government which has no problem ignoring constitutional guarantees from the right to a jury trial to the right to bear arms in the name of security is the height of hypocrisy.  Just as the High Priest pointed out that it was better for Jesus to die than for a nation to perish, so to it is worth the risk that one person, in this case the President, die seeking peace than a nation, even if it's not ours, perish of starvation by continued sanctions in the name of peace.

It's possible that had the person coming back with the report was someone other than Dennis Rodman, the request might have been considered.  But given Rodman's history for eccentricity, unfortunately, I think his trip is receiving mainly raised eyebrows.

I watched his interview with George S. over at ABC and it's hard for me to take him seriously.  I'm not sure if Rodman himself understands all the complexities and his stance that the dictator is his friend while brushing off what goes on in his country as something "his grandpa" did was just not convincing to me.
