Hello, Howard!  Impressive witness and outreach.

My wife Darlene and I were not what one might call "high livers."  One of our favorite pastimes was going to Gift & Thrift in Harrisonburg VA, a thrift shop run by Mennonite Central Committee supporters.  I still stop there regularly when I go to the city.

Thrift stores are a valuable service.  They recycle items that otherwise might get thrown away.  They make available valuable goods to the public.  They support significant charitable and public service activities.

I applaud your meeting's thrift store initiative!  For a meeting as small as yours, "The Thrifty Quaker" seems like a major effort.

My meeting is not small so I'll skip personal sharing about this mega meeting.  You guys have done a lot "with what has been entrusted to you."  Thank you and thanks to your meeting for sharing that ministry with others.

My Meeting is large (~75 people on a given Sunday), and we have an annual "strawberry festival" that includes a thrift sale for just the one day (also a bake sale, little cafe, etc). Like yours, a dozen or so other non-profits receive the proceeds. Whatever doesn't sell that day goes to one of the large, established thift shops.

I think I read about this annual event somewhere, Mackenzie.  I thought to myself, "what a wonderful community building event!".  I am think it was in the Baltimore Yearly Meeting Interchange newsletter - but I can't recall what meeting it is.  Do you mind refreshing my memory of what meeting this is?

Howard: It's Adelphi Friends Meeting, and yes, BYM Interchange would be a likely place to hear about it.
