After reading the Penn Charter article questioning whether they should be more Quaker and mulling it over in my spirit for a few days, I came to the realization that too many people, Quakers included, base their charity on intellectualizing the need for such instead of letting charity flow from their heart.  At a local Long Island gathering for Christ Centered Quakers, the spirit spoke to my heart that those of us gathered were wounded lovers, just as Jesus was, and that we were being sent out as wounded lovers to love our neighbors.  I believe many of us are wounded lovers who have been nailed to crosses of rejection and instead of coming down from our crosses and embracing the needy we have allowed our wounds to be sterilized and sanitized and we have vowed to not allow ourselves to ever end up in that same position again.  Accordingly we live our lives at a safe distance from our souls and our hearts.  God is calling us to embrace our wounds and to allow them to be the source of empathy for the needy of this world.  Our calling as Qaukers, as Christians, should not be to be successful in changing the World but to live,cry, lament and die for the Impossible Dream of such change and as one of my dear sisters in the Lord says "to do it with JOY!"
