In an article dated Nov. 15, 2011 I found the following: Unicef said on Tuesday that 24 children were killed in conflict in Somalia in October, nearly double the confirmed child killings in every other month of  2011.

In praying about the recent slaughter of young children in Ct., my heart spoke to me about all the young children that get slaughtered regularly, especially in the less developed countries of the world.  In this day of instant news, the number of deaths due to violence is so great that it takes something very close to home to awaken in us an outrage that defenseless children are victimized by the evil and sick among us.  Is a Ct. child more valuable than a child born in Somalia?  Is a Somalian child or mexican or any other less loved by God than one living in the US?  Of course not!  Why then do we act so outraged at this one instance when needless deaths of children are taking place all over the world?  Why do we want to ban weapons here in the US while selling arms that find their way to Somalia and Mexico where they are used to obtain power by crushing peaceful people?  Is it Money?  Are we afraid that the economy will take a hit if we shut down our defense budget spending?  Has "Quality of Life" become the new God in whom we Trust?  Proverbs 37:6 says

A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

and again at

Proverbs 16:8

Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.

We can leave "In God we trust" on our money.  No one should care since everyone has their own idea of God.  But when we point at the evil in our brother and before we cast the first stone, we should ask ourselves if we are without sin and we should recall

Proverbs 15:16

  Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Maybe it's time to turn from our Consumer God and repent for our own self-centered wickedness and then call on the name of the God George Fox saw in every man and then maybe our Father will heal our broken land?  This is a good time of year to do that, not New Years.  Don't make this a New Year's resolution, make this a new heart condition.  One treated with Compassion for all the lives, young and old, lost to violence and not one treated with a daily dose of baby aspirin.
