Hi Carole, in my opinion Neelon is strong on the history but quite weak on the theology. A good book on Nayler's theology remains to be written. Stuart.

Dear Carole, have you done any more work on Nayler? I have really mixed feelings about the new Neelon book. On the one hand it filled some important gaps for me in terms of context and pre-Quaker life but I found the treatment of Bristol and 'the women' frustratingly predictable (a largely uncritical acceptance of the Foxite account). I also disagree with Neelon about Nayler's post-Bristol position. I just don't see him as a spiritual individualist. I find your perspective much more interesting. Blessings, Stuart.
