Hi Geoffrey,
I'm as surprised as you are. For reasons unexplained, Eleanor closed her membership in QuakerQuaker two days ago. That deleted all her content, including discussions she started. It's a shame. I found people on that thread unusually tender and open even when in disagreement. I almost forget this was the internet!

There might have been some late comment that crossed the line for Eleanor but if so, she didn't contact me or explain herself in the optional form that's there when leaving. Unfortunately the Ning system doesn't allow even me the ability to resurrect a discussion started by a former member. I understand their reasoning, but it is sad that such an important discussion has completely disappeared.

And there's no way to set the system so that people don't automatically delete all their discussions when they leave?

I'm afraid not. Ning's pretty serious about giving individuals the ability to take down their material. I think they consider it a privacy issue. I agree, but it occasionally causes this kind of loss.

Thank you for raising this important issue of the missing thread! Though I disagreed with some of what your wrote I really appreciated your tone of voice.
Eleanor had posted a useful explanation of how to format an indented extended quote. I was intending to use that in a reply. Can you Geoffrey, or someone else help me out?

I hope I didn't make Eleanor go away. I just had occasion to "meet" her in a discussion I started in Quaker Talk a few days hence and, all of a sudden, she and her probing comments are gone...

It looks like the only way to leave the discussion group without losing everything you've written and all the discussions you've started would be to copy everything in the discussion before leaving, then paste it into another file. What a nuisance, especially if the person leaving doesn't know this.

I am really sad to see her go. She was one of the first to welcome me. Does anyone know what even upset her so much?

Hi everyone. It's time to close this discussion. People are free to join or leave QuakerQuaker without giving an explanation. The last few comments questioning her motives have crossed the line; I have deleted them and the responses they've generated. This thread with a simple question which has been answered. Sloane's comment that Eleanor will be missed is a fine ending to this thread.
