I know Quakers like to preach Peace.  It's hard not to point out reasons why War is wrong.  The maimed, the dead.  However, I think that it's a waste of time.  You can't convert people to live in peace who believe in their heart that justice requires an eye for an eye.  As Jesus taught peace requires going the extra mile and continuously forgiving each other.  Not just seven time and not even seven times seven times but all the time.  And yes preaching forgiveness can be just as hard as preaching peace.  If we dare to believe the gospel of Luke where it is written:

   For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

we would understand that peace comes with Christ the Lord.  When George Fox became a leader of the early Quakers it wasn't with a message of peace, it was with a message of experiential knowledge of Christ the Lord.  For those of us who have experienced the risen Christ, that experience is one of being immersed in a Love that freed us from rejection, despair, guilt, hate, lust, and/or any one or more of numerous addictions and personal vices.  It is this LOVE that is necessary for peace on earth.  Instead of preaching peace we should return to the original message and preach Love.  We have to preach that experiencing Christ is not just a mystical experience it is exposure to the LOVE that is Christ.  We have to preach that what God has done for us He can do for others.  It is time to stop putting the cart before the horse for without love there can be no peace.  The Old Testament eye for an eye can only be successfully replaced by the New Testament call to follow Jesus and walk in sacrificial love.
