Amy Outlaw writes that there is only Love or Fear.  I agree that Fear is an impediment to Love.  A strong one.  It's also an impediment to the Quaker Process that relies on access to the divine to find what action a community or meeting is to take.  There is a fear that if we actually sought with all our heart to determine what the Divine was calling us to do it might require us to do something we intellectually will not accept.  At stake is our Identity.  Everyone has an Identity.  It's what we have built our house on.  Jesus tells the story of the two men who build their houses, one on sand and the other on rock.  When the storm came the one built on sand was washed away but the one built on rock survived.  In both cases the men survived but one lost everything he thought he had while the other didn't.

None of us want to see our houses destroyed in a storm, whether it be a physical storm or a spiritual one.  As avid Pro-choice advocates we might hear the Divine tell us as a community that Life is precious and is greater than anyone's rights; as staunch Pro-lifers we might hear that Love covers a multitude of sins.  Perhaps our identity is membership in a political party or LGBT issues.  But regardless of what our identity is we each have to check to see if it could withstand a storm.  If it can't withstand a storm it might be time to rebuild elsewhere where fear will not stand in the way of being open to all that Love can bring which in the end is unity.  Jesus said He and the Father are one.  God is Love.  Being one with the divine is being one with Love and vice-versa.  In John 17 Jesus prays that we all be one just as He and the Father are one.  Don't let fear stop you from taking baby steps in that direction.  Trust that the Quaker Process can lead you there if we all commit ourselves to touch the Divine source of that process:  TRUST THE PROCESS, TOUCH THE SOURCE!  Replace fear with HOPE!
