- I am a semi-retired teacher and also a writer. I consider myself both a Catholic and a Quaker and have started a blog called Catholic-Quaker, on which I share my meditations on Scripture and other religious writings. I have written a book called Leadings: A Catholic's Journey Through Quakerism, in which I tell the story of my religious journey. I have recently been re-energized in my desire to bridge the divide that exists between Catholics and Quakers by the interest of a Friend from Iowa who says he shares my vision. Irene - I just finished reading your book A Catholic's Journey Through Quakerism. I myself - a longtime Quaker - joined the Catholic Church this Easter! I could have written many parts of your book - not so much the personal part but the openings that led me to join the Church and what I love about the Church and my feelings about being "out" of the Quaker environment etc. etc. I really would love to talk to you on the phone if that is possible sometime! I am struggling a bit with how to maintain my Quaker "self" and also how to bring that to the Church when there seem to be no opportunities to participate on a local level aside from attending Mass (I also sing in the very small choir).
I am an affiliate member of Ohio Yearly Meeting and have kept that status, but I don't think they are totally happy with me anymore - lots of shock and confusion about what I did maybe. Almost like telling them I am gay I feel. Sigh! It all makes so much sense to me but I feel very isolated. Even my Quaker husband is baffled and really does not understand. This is the first time we have not been together on a Sunday.
It occurred to me that maybe there are other former Quaker Catholics who could network a bit?
