Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
Our experience of the presence of God is our entire experience, including all internal and external senses and our awareness of experiencing.
We can't say that some subset of our experience is the presence of God.
Some aspect of our experience may come to symbolize or represent or indicate the presence of God to a person, but that's an agreed 'codeword' between God and that person: "When I feel ___ then I know You are here & open for business." God is always here and open for business; there's no 'absence of God' to contrast with that...
We might know that very well, yet there are times when we're more cognizant of it, more open to responding to God and expecting responses.
It might take an exceptional sort of person to be always aware of God's presence. We aren't under any obligation to be such a person (desirable as it might be, for such a person.)
But as ordinary people we have a right and a need and a continuing opportunity to address God inwardly and/or outwardly, and to trust we are heard and will receive the best appropriate response, when we're ready.
