1. So lets say you are a cast iron skillet. Made by the best cast iron skillet maker in the world. Your first owner knows you should be "seasoned" before use but doesn't' have the time to do it right. You are left to soak in the sink in spite of the directions you came with and after repeated failures to adhere to the manufacturer's instructions you are no longer the pride and joy of your owner as you are coated with rust and no one would think of using you for your original purpose. Instead you become a paper weight and occasional weapon in family fights. You no longer get to hang out in the kitchen with the family. It looks like the end of the line. Then suddenly someone recognizes that you are wondrously made. Underneath all that rust they think they see the original logo and they decide you deserve to be restored. The first step is to burn off the rust so you have to spend a good amount of time in the fire; next you have to get all that rust washed off you and then put back in the fire but not for as long this time. Finally you get taken out of the fire and this time you are bathe in oil. This is done a few more times: In the fire; oiled, dried off and then back in the fire, over and over until you and the oil are for all practical purposes one and you are back hanging in a place of honor and considered one of the best cast iron skillets ever made. In fact you are fit for a King!
