Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
Based on Psalm 116
Meter: 6.6.8.6
Return to rest, my soul;
The Lord has heard my cry.
Because Your ear has turned to me
I’ll praise You till I die.
My sorrow and distress
was more than I could stand –
I called Your name in anguished pain
And there I found Your hand!
You dried my eyes from tears;
I couldn’t catch my breath
Until Your saving graciousness
Delivered me from death.
You make your pathways known
To all who seek and fear.
Return to rest, my soul, give thanks
For grace to persevere.
I lift a cup to You,
Whose saving deeds are known.
I vow in sight of all these friends
To praise the love You’ve shown.
I am your servant, Lord,
Like mother unto child.
Most precious is Your tenderness;
With thanks I am beguiled.
Hallelu Yah -
Hallelu Yah -
Return to rest, my shielded soul
Hallelu Yah!
