Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
Hi all,
Even though I am new to this website ( if only I had know about this years ago!), I am not new to dressing plain and have been sewing my own plain clothes for the past 4 years. In the first two years I was really struggling to find good and affordable patterns, but they all had to come from America and cost quite a lot of money in postage and extra tax, so it took me a while to take the plunge into dressing plain, and then a awhile longer to feel comfortable in it ( being surrounded by people who have never seen a plain dressing christian before can be quite challenging).
So now that I 've finally reached a point where I am quick at sewing dresses, broadfalls and childrens clothes, and my family is content wearing them, I feel that I have extra energy to witness to the wider world on this topic. As such I have started thinking about offering sewing lessons, and maybe a webshop for plain items sold at cost price.
I was wondering, are there any other plain dressing Quakers on the mainland of Europe, or people who are on the edge of daring to dress plain? I would love to help make the material part of the change easier, but I am currently not daring to put a lot of time and effort into jumpstarting such a webshop because I do not know if there are any people out here in Europe who would want to buy such items.
I had a similar idea to create a plain dress shop for Canada! I'm so glad to some more plain Quakers :)
I have dressed plain for the last five years and have become a Mennonite. The ladies sew their own clothes but sewing is a challenge for me so I order mine from Esther Gehman in Pennsylvania. She is currently making me ten new dresses in my new (smaller) size.
