Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
I gave a message on the First Day that is most often called Easter about Jesus and his always choosing love. I could see Jesus suffering in the garden and leaving his loved ones to wait as he went to seek the Light....
Then returning to find them asleep. How lonely he must have felt during his ministry at times like this and when no one seemed to understand what he was teaching/preaching, when he was betrayed/denied, when he was beat and tortured, yet to be raised on a cross and say "Forgive them ,they know not what they do." He had every reason to do other than love, but he still chose LOVE and not to curse, and how he could have fought those who beat him off or ran, but he stayed, spoke truth to power and died victorious in that he gave us the ultimate example of what to do. I do not believe in a God that required blood to be spilled for the remission of sins and do not see that as the redemptive power of Christ-The redemptive power of Christ that I see is a lesson shown through the example of non-violence, even unto death, and of LOVE! Never cursing, always seeing through the negative actions to the ignorance, suffering, etc behind it....
This has been my experience of God-always loving me, even through my faults, not cursing me bc of them, but looking through compassion to my heart and knowing I am learning, and scared, ignorant etc when I act other than full of love and grace toward others, God or myself.
To say "Forgive them, they no not what they do" is a wonderful and deep statement. The implication there is that if people knew that the things they were doing were actually taking them away from REAL LOVE, PEACE, etc they would not do them, they would see that cursing, gossip, being selfish etc not only hurts others but it keeps us bound up in chains of our own making, and keep us from experiencing what we so desperately want, Go(o)d/LOVE/PEACE, because we are blocking it. What a beautiful statement, "if they knew they would not do this." If they knew what Jesus knew and displayed, LOVE and PEACE, they would not have done that, how could we once having tasted the glory of perfect LOVE, want anything else. Living the Kingdom-Being the Change-Being Love-Allows us to know and Live there ourselves and be in Bliss-One with the Father.
Have you read if Grace is True by Phil Gulley? How does Denny's book trouble you? I am not familiar with him or his book... :-)
