I want to share my reflections on the comments to my original post on Unity. I think Friend Raye nailed it. The key to Unity with God is Holiness. If we all concentrate on becoming Holy as our Father in Heaven is Holy we will draw closer to Him and each other. We have to resist the strong temptation to get sidetracked by religious beliefs, dogma, theology or whatever you want to call our convictions about God. Our job is to love our neighbor and our God. If I do that and you do that, we will draw nearer to God and like spokes on a wheel with God as our hub we will draw nearer to each other.
By Holiness, I don't mean the outer Holiness of the Pharisees but the inner Holiness of the heart. Proverbs 4:23 tells us to watch over our hearts with all diligence for from it flows the springs of life. Greed, unforgiveness, pride and envy, among others, are always trying to dam the heart to prevent the springs of life from flowing forth. Concentrate on your heart condition, keep the beavers away and Holiness will follow.
If my belief in the deity of Jesus and the divine inspiration of the Bible helps me do that, what is it to you? And if your opposing belief helps you do it, what is it to me? If there is someone lost and living a life of degradation and my sharing my beliefs with him turns his or her life around that is a good thing for all of us just as if you had achieved the same result by sharing your beliefs. Our goal is not to win converts among the choir by making them all altos, it's to get the largest and best choir with enough altos, sopranos, basses and tenors to sing God's praises from the highest mountains to the lowest valleys
