I was reading more of the life of George Fox. In chapter five George is on the outskirts of the town of Lichfield . . . and is instructed by God to enter the town and proclaim it's woes. And while walking the streets of Lichfield . . . George sees a vision of blood running down the streets of town. Thus causing him to declare the woes of Lichfield more forcefully . . . afterwards he learns that 1300 years before a Roman emperor Diocletian had slaughtered over one thousand followers of Christ at this site.

It seems that George had . . . mistaken the vision . . . as looking into the future, and not in the past.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Have you seen into the past? I have a friend . . . that had a vision . . . of the garden of Eden . . . how wonderful.

Hi Rick, I have had visions, or, more aptly put, reocurring dreams, but first, I'd like to say a little about the Lichfield incident. Fox's prophetic walk through that town was inspired by his view of the shattered steeples of a three steepled Episcopalian Church that was bombed during a New Model Army seige of the town, which was a Royalists stronghold. It is possible that Fox was passing judgment on the choices the town made during the English civil war, and its loyalty to the crown. Fox was a firm supporter, as were most if not all of early Friends, of the Cromwellian project in its initial stages. Indeed, in letters to Cromwell. Some Friends indicated a belief that God's hand played an integral role in Cromwell's military success.
As for my own visions or dreams, my call to ministry from atheism began with nightime revelations of the Messiah. Jesus would appear to me in dreams in the shape of various personalities, calling me to pursue the spiritual path that I had embarked upon. These visions were primarily concerned with the present, I believe, as opposed to the past or future. Most certainly, however, they had a bearing on my future as a minister in the name of Jesus.

I haven't had visions per se, but rather tactile and verbal messages.

During a personal crisis, I felt arms around me while in Meeting for Worship. It was clear to me that the arms were Jesus'. When I've been going down the wrong path, I've heard a voice telling me to stop.

In relation to the Lichfield event, it is also worth noting that this City saw many burnings during Queen Mary's reign (1550s) and the last burning in England took place there in 1612 (a Baptists called Edward Wightman). Shalom, Stuart.

We have this expectation, that if we're led to carry out a prophetic action we will understand what result God intended it to accomplish.

I think this incident-- serves as a striking counterexample!

I agree with you . . . if we quickly react to Gods spiritual messages to us . . . without fully understanding Gods intentions . . . we set ourselves up for failure.
