The bible speaks of the mind of Christ.  In 1Co_2:16 we read "For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."   And again in Rom_7:25 Paul writes "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin." where he tells us it is with this "mind" that we follow the law of God.  Slowly but surely I am coming to believe there is a new revival that is breaking loose among people of good will.  What I sense in my soul, I read in articles from others.  It's not defined and not yet clearly understood.  I believe it's a new consciousness of Love.  It's an awareness of not just our need for Love or knowing that you know that you know God loves you personally as many of us experienced in the 1970's but it's a new awareness of knowing that our purpose in life is that of being an instrument of Love; of Great Compassion; of Karuna.  Yes, there's a reason why the Prayer of St. Francis is to be made an instrument of Love.  That is why we were created.  When God looked upon Adam and decided it was not right for Adam to be alone it was because God made Adam to be an instrument of Love and such an instrument needs another to be used.  A Stradivarious needs someone to play it to achieve its purpose and Adam needed Eve just as we all need each other to fulfill God's purpose for our lives.  If I'm right I don't have to convince anyone that this is true.  God is and will be revealing this to people of good will everywhere.  I have read many articles extolling the need to recognize the rights of the LGBT community and truthfully don't have a problem with them in society but do not accept those arguments as being pertinent in the church society.  However, when I look at it with the mind of Christ, with a consciousness of Love, I don't want to add one additional splinter to the cross my brothers and sisters in the LGBT community are carrying.  I know how heavy my own can be at times and I can't imagine how hard their's must be.  And it's not just in the matter of "gay rights" but in the peace testimony and partisan politics as well.  The rational arguments against war are overwhelming but when reading Leo Tolstoy's "The Kingdom of God is within you" I was struck by how he thought, in the 1800's, nations had surely reached a point where the weapons of war were so hideous that men of good will couldn't possibly continue to use them against one another and how nerve gas, nuclear weapons and drones  have far surpassed man's destructive powers of that day and yet done nothing to lessen wars or the pain and suffering they bring.  It is only be allowing this consciousness of Love, the mind of Christ, to take over our lives that we can refuse to participate in the war machine, and we all participate in some manner by being part of the consumerism, the ego gratification of the False Self that governs most of society, and understand the folly of partisan politics.  When we allow the mind of Christ to rule we will see everything we do as being loving or not loving and not as being necessary or unneccessary for the prosperity or security of our ego, our carnal man, our False Self.  Repeat after me: Make me an instrument of your peace, where there is hatred let me bring your love,  where there is injury your pardon Lord, and where there's doubt true faith in you.  Don't just say it, sing it.  Sing it till you breath it.  Ask and you shall receive.  The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Thank you, Friend James.  You speak my mind.

I agree there seems to be a growing Spirit moving us toward greater Love.  There is an excitement in love-centred evangelists like Rob Bell and Shane Claibourne, the "emerging church" movement, with its focus on Christian community and work with the poor, continues to expire...and lots of other great movements happening.  And the Religious Society of Friends is not without some of those fresh winds, either.  It is indeed a wonderful time - praise God!
