Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
By Martin Kelley
A few weeks ago I decided to spend my lunch hour wandering Philadelphia. It was a beautiful day and I headed east, toward the Old City neighborhood. I looped around Race Street and started west when I came to the compound of the Old First Reformed UCC Church.
It has an inviting courtyard surrounded by a low brick wall and cast iron fence. On the bars the congregation had put up a series of signs profiling members. The signs were well done but they were really just snapshots, and text on laminated paper held to the fence by twist ties. A couple of people could replicate this in an afternoon with tools most of us have--digital camera, printer, local copy shop.
A few volunteers and $50 could create a campaign like this. What else could our meetings do with $50 and creativity and the real desire to reach out to our wider community? Let us know in the comments.
