Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
In Fox’s teaching, however, the prophetic office of Christ becomes no less important than his priestly and kingly functions, and this shift of emphasis brings about a Copernican revolution in our understanding of who Jesus Christ is and how he saves people. ("The Relation of Fox's Message to the Bible" by Lewis Benson)
Since apostolic times, many differing Christologies have been presented by institutions and reformers, and various gospels have been preached. George Fox,…

When I was 38 years old I walked away from my political life, resigning as a local committeeman, to follow Jesus. I re-examined my career and distanced myself from work that would, in my opinion at the time, hinder my spiritual development. I knew my weaknesses and my desire to please people and did not want to constantly be fighting those weaknesses while trying to reprogram my life into a WWJD lifestyle.
This course of action came at great cost financially and eventually led to…

"We sometimes forget all the tools Friends have used to make this happen. We have used these tools for centuries. They are the ways Friends teach, learn, experiment, and realize a testimony (in the sense of “make it real”)."
"These are not methods to force…

The one concept I love most about Christianity is that of a personal God. One who knows and loves me personally. One who would have died on the cross for me if I was the only one in the world; one who knew me before I was in my mother's womb; one who called me by name before I was born; and yet there it is: John 3:16 on billboards and placards at sporting events: For God so loved the WORLD ...... I'm not an only child. I have siblings whom God loves as much as I and how he treats me…

“He know when you are sleeping, he knows when you’re awake. He knows if you’ve been bad or good”
These are familiar words from the song Santa Claus is Coming to Town. On Christmas day I was thinking about the legend of Santa Claus which is based on Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas was a real…

There is no rose of such virtue
As is the rose that bare Jesu.
For in this rose contained was
Heaven and earth in little space;
Res miranda. [a wonderful thing]
The angels sungen the shepherds to:
Gloria in excelsis Deo:
Gaudeamus. [Let us rejoice.]
Leave we all this worldly mirth,
And follow we this joyful…

Mic 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
This scripture came out of vocal ministry at our meeting a while back and has been a source of ongoing personal revelation for me since. The latest revelation of its depth was an aspect of "to walk humbly with they God?"
I have a grandson who is always eager to show me how much he knows. Whenever he learns something…

The Quaker Meeting that I am a member of considers a query each month as part of our spiritual discipline. On the first Sunday of each month, we read queries during worship inviting those attending to reflect on an aspect of our lives. In December the queries address Peace and Reconciliation. One of these queries prompted these thoughts on the use of…

Written originally for a Non-Quaker audience.
We as Americans are divided along political and ideological lines, surely, but what gets less attention is how divided we are along moral lines. Though I write as a person of faith, we are not yet so divorced from the notion of basic upright precepts that we no longer have any shared definitions of…
