T Tank Farm construction

This 1944 photo shows construction of giant underground tanks that hold (and many have leaked) high-level radioactive waste resulting from making plutonium for nuclear weapons. Hanford has 149 single-shell tanks and 28 double-shelled tanks. About 1/3 of the single-shell tanks have leaked.
