The barn does feel very warm! We averaged around -25 F this winter, but indoors was very well sheltered. The biggest problem has been feed unfortunately. We've had two drought years in a row, and an extremely late start to the growing season this year, along with massive flooding in the agricultural areas. I'm very worried there wont be enough hay to last this winter. We barely made it through the last one...

This is how dairy cattle were housed in the wintertime in northeastern New York when I was young.  The interior of the barn was very comfortable, even when the temperature outside was close to zero (F).
