Lovely work!

It tucks under the waist band of the apron, which holds it in place. I usually put a small pin there. :)

Zaley - thanks for the photo. However, now I don't understand how the point attaches? To the waist? It isn't loose, right? maybe I have to buy the pattern and see it first hand.

It pulls over the head Barbara, there is a slight opening at the front of the neck to allow for that. It comes to a point at the back like your standard Amish style. Not exactly like this pic, but similar idea, less bunchy though. http://amishamerica.com/images/amish-women-scoop-hats.jpg

This is out of print (but I found a copy on Etsy, eBay's another place to check), but I think this Simplicity pattern is going to get a lot of use in my wardrobe: http://www.simplicity.com/p-2213-misses-dresses.aspx#t-0  It's a similar cut to the one Lynn linked, but a bit more ease and done from woven fabric instead of a clingy jersey knit.

That is a lovely dress but might be too form-fitting for some. It would be super easy to sew though.

I really like this dress, just wish it wasn't so expensive....

Zaley - What I have always wondered is what does the back of the cape look like. Is it buttoned or does it pull over the head? The drawing on the site is not obvious to me. Is the cape comfortable? As I understand from a Mennonite friend this is the predecessor of the modern cape dress - she remembers helping her mom sew this pattern for her grandmother!

Yes that is correct, thanks Mackenzie! Sadly I did not get a chance to put up my variations this past weekend, but I'll try again this weekend! Life is just so hectic recently! I have done the cape Barbara, if you follow the link Mackenzie posted you can see it on from the front view. If you want detailed up close photos of specific stuff just let me know, The pattern is fairly straightforward, with a few bits that need better explanation. I am happy to help if you get stuck anywhere, I definitely did! Note that the skirt pattern and the apron pattern are the same paper, but there are different pleating marks and hem lines for each, so be careful to mark the correct ones!
