Primitive Christianity Revived, Again

"Emerging Christianities: Converging or Coagulating?" (External blog posting)

(Note: this is not my blog, but belongs to a long-time friend and pastor connected with Mennonites, Black Baptists, and Jesus Radicals.)

I have questions as to whether the "convergence Christianity" seeking expression at these events is being oversold. I don't mean that in a negative way. I find this emerging coalition that Brian McLaren and others are guiding to be a hopeful element in contemporary Christian life in North America. But it would help this movement and promote it's ongoing development if their language about themselves was a bit more reserved than labels like "convergence Christianity" imply.

I suspect what we really have is more like a "coagulating Christianity" - that is, a new clustering of Christian figures, movements, and subcultures that is important to those participating, but must also be kept in perspective in relationship to the larger fabric of American (and global) religiosity. Or to say it in another way it is significant but not revolutionary.
