I do know this: many of us make ourselves feel good by tossing the poor a bone from our wealth (and we are wealthy, see www.globalrichlist.com), and it's time we heed the call of Jesus to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. This is a call to compassion, to suffer with the other person and strongly desire to alleviate that suffering. We hoard for our retirement, for a holiday, or even for a Quaker retreat, and justify it all by a donation to AFSC. We express 'compassion' by proxy, voting for the political party that will build a new nursing home, but ignoring the eldery who are inside the new nursing home. 'A penny saved is a penny earned' is not the teaching of Jesus Christ.

Thanks for adding it to the list here. There's a lot of good writing these days. If you find more that haven't been posted to the QuakerQuaker main page, could you include the title in the page where you link to it? I will leave my comments on Davison's blog.
