Thomas Merton is one of the most widely read Catholic authors of the last 100 years. Many have found him a valuable, not to say transformative, guide to the inner life. His literary output is vast and diverse, and mirrors or reports on his own growth, interests, and experiments.
Here's what Brian says about reading Merton, "I have found Merton a challenging and helpful companion since my Catholic high school days. These days, I find many of his questions to be relevant to the dilemmas of Quaker life in our times."
You will need a copy of A Book of Hours by Thomas Merton, edited by Kathleen Deignan for this course.
