Event Description

How are you being led, right now, and how are you responding to that leading? Are you unsure as to whether you are led, and how to know? It is no small task to distinguish leadings from our thoughts and emotions, whether pertaining to our actions in the world or to our inner spiritual condition. Yet central to our experience as Friends is that there is that of God in each of us, and if we learn to listen to that spark of the Divine, we will be lead and guided deeper and deeper into the truth of our being.

As we move down that path of faithfulness, our lives change. We can cooperate with that change, or resist it. Most of us do both. How we nurture Love's Seed will determine whether or not we bear fruit, and do our own small part in creating the Beloved Community, God's reign of love and justice. In this retreat we will dive deep, exploring how we are being called, how we discern the promptings of the Inner Guide, our ways of resistance, and our means of support, both internal and in our community.

Christopher Sammond is a member of Poplar Ridge Monthly Meeting. For over twenty-five years he has led workshops and retreats in a wide variety of Friends' contexts. He is trained in spiritual direction and the spiritual formation of whole congregations and has served as a chaplain in hospice, hospital, and drug and alcohol treatment center settings. He carries a concern for faithfulness, and has traveled extensively in the ministry. Christopher currents serves New York Yearly Meeting as its General Secretary and lives in central New York State with his wife Barbara, their dog Gabe, and cats Harriet and Lil.
