Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
It is my hope that most Americans will one day agree on the following three items:
The need to scale back
- the size and scope of our military intervention
- the war on drugs and the resultant mass incarceration
- domestic and international surveillance.
Until we reach broad consensus on these goals, though, opportunities remain for partnerships that work toward them. Among Friends, many of whom are or consider themselves progressive, building bridges to those who identify as libertarian or anarchist could be such a creative partnership.

Hello Matt,
You are so much more than a libertarian.
Progressives can do all kinds of things. That's just them being progressives. I'm sure this is not a site for progressives to try to get people to join political parties though. :-) You may notice that the rest of us are not doing that, though we may have personal convictions as deep as yours in that area.
This is a space for us to be PEOPLE.
I find myself hoping that you'll relax and just be progressive for a change. Not that you are being "too much" or "aren't progressive enough"... It's just that this is kind of nice place for us to be free and....while you are free to think things that happen to be libertarian views...you seem to keep doing something that just doesn't feel "free".
It makes me want to help you unhook this heavy "libertarian" monkey on your back, help you set your pamphlets down, and invite you to go get a massage (not just "relax" but really, really GET THE MASSAGE).
You are a person of ideas and values and a lot that is floating around in your head, all for good causes and good intent, however it can be most important if you are to have a spiritual path that you set down all other focuses and agendas and let yourself not have any agenda...let yourself ground in your own physical body, sit in the silence of a Christ-oriented personal meditation (a practice that with discipline silences all of our various gobbledygook, and we all have it and allows us to remember that we are just here to be light). It also hurts to do this because it causes all our ideas about how things really need to go to rise up and out and that can be completely undesirable by human standards!
You are welcome to join us! Many of us are trying to give up these other monkeys on our backs and freely follow this Light.
Hello Olivia,
Thank you for the advice and invitation. I agree that I am more than a libertarian, and my goal here is not to convince anyone to join a particular party (as the post itself suggests). I actually don't feel like I have a monkey on my back, but feel freed by sharing a bit about the whole of who I am. That wholeness includes the political implications of my theology. I don't expect my perspective to resonate with all here (as I expect is true of many of the postings by myself and others), but I share in the hope that it may resonate with some. So, as with your invitation, I welcome all Friends who seek to have an impact in the world. For those of us who do, it may just be as noble a calling as any other, and it may be just as true a way to follow the Light we are given as those who choose different paths.
