Once again the disclaimer, these are pure unaltered ramblings.

Veils and Headcovering: Not to show “subservience” but to have the choice of who I show my “power” to. Celtic Goddess/Women are shown with long flowing hair, a symbol of their personal power. Covering gives me the choice of who I show myself to, and also as a form of protection. Also, think of all the references to “veils” in Paganism. Dying is going “through the veil”, or “beyond the veil”. When one is doing extensive spiritual work, like shamanic work to contact the Ancestors, Gods and Beloved Dead, one must look “beyond the veil”. I’ve also seen many references to the Goddess being “veiled” and only showing Herself to those who are worthy. I’ll have to look them up and give actual reference. I know there is one in The Sea Priestess by Dion Fortune. I just have to find it again. There is this bit from the though that caught my eye. I had been praying for clarity, listening for The Voice Within, and on my way home a few days ago I had this vision of the Veiled Goddess walking across the ocean, towards the shore, surrounded by fog. I believe it is from a part of The Sea Priestess, but I can’t seem to find it now, so maybe it was an actual vision. Here’s a bit from the Sea Priestess:

“I am that soundless, boundless, bitter sea.
All tides are mine, and answer unto me.
Tides of the airs, tides of the inner earth;
The secret, silent tides of death and rebirth.
Tides of men’s souls, and dreams, and destiny-
    Isis Veiled, and Ea, Binah, Ge.”

Rob is not exactly pleased by this sudden need to cover. He told me the other day that I looked “cuter” without it. I got quite upset internally, felt a moment of anger that he was not accepting this part of me. But as I thought on it and listened for an answer, it came. He is my husband, my beloved, one of very few who get to see me “unveiled”, who I show my “power” to. Another passage from The Sea Priestess:

“I am the star that rises from the sea-
    The twilight sea.
I bring men dreams that rule their destiny.
I bring the dream-tides to the souls of men;
The tides that ebb and flow and ebb again-
    These are my secret, these belong to me-

I am the eternal Woman, I am she !
The tides of all men’s souls belong to me.
The tides that ebb and flow and ebb again;
The silent, inward tides that govern men-
    These are my secret, these belong to me.

Out of my hands he takes his destiny.
Touch of my hands confers polarity.
These are the moon-tides, these belong to me-
    Hera in heaven, on earth, Persephone;
Levanah of the tides, and Hecate.
Diana of the Moon, Star of the Sea-
Isis Unveiled and Ea, Binah, Ge !”
