Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
Long one this time:
I no longer call myself a Christian as that word has been watered down so much as to lose most of it's identify.
I now only call myself simply a Follower of Jesus Christ
Okay, nice piece. I'm not sure it answers the title question, though: Why do you call yourself 'a Christian'? Why do you want to? [I'm not saying I don't wonder this about myself, either. We do seem to have more in common than either of us may appreciate!]
It's getting utterly distracting where I am at the moment, so let me just suggest this and ask what you think of it?
Dare I say it? I think I'll chance it. I have been finding a more "sensible" version of Christianity with Islam. No, I have not "joined" or "reverted", yet. I love to read Carl Jung and even a little of Swedenborg along with the Bible. I find God on my horse up in the mountains or in the silence of night. He's everywhere, full time. I live in the heart of Mormon country, am part Native American and have seven Muslim cousins. I've seen first hand the hysteria of people who meet my hijab wearing cousins who are firmly American. In Syria my Christianity was honored, not a source of hysteria. American right wing politics has badly burned me out. I love Jesus for who he is through his own words but honestly do not want to carry the political baggage anymore. I really don't know what to call myself anymore. I include a link, but encourage Dr. Arnold to decide whether to include it or not. http://www.islamreligion.com/articles/662/
