Martin Kelley: "Tell them all this but do not expect them to listen". I’m more than three-quarters of the way through the Bible (I’m stretching my One Year Bible plan across two years) and that’s really all it is: story after story of human’s relations with God. Friends have picked up this methodology in a big way. Our primary religious education is the journals elders have been asked to write to recount the trials and prophetic openings of a life lived in an attempt at spiritual obedience.

Thanks, Martin. I need to be reminded, regularly, of the fact that obedience and faithfulness are important, and yet bear no guarantee of anyone listening, changing, repenting, or otherwise appropriately responding.

And also, I'd say, the intention and hope that someone will respond is part of what this is about. Not measurements of effectiveness, goals for how many, clever strategies (beyond putting matters as well as you can for the person(s) addressed.) It just implies sincere effort and some trust that God will make good use of that, even if we can't have imminent 'success'. God's intentions are hardly going to remain uncompleted forever...
