Primitive Christianity Revived, Again
Chapter 9 of Minding the Light: Our Collective Journal is now available online and attached as a PDF file below. For this chapter, we invited Friends to respond to the query, "In following the Light, when have you been led to do something that was scary to think about?” We received 11 responses to the query – a painting, two poems, and eight stories.
This query evoked deep and touching stories about many kinds of fear: fear of questioning deeply instilled beliefs; fear of death; fear of following a leading to speak; fear of those who are different; the terror of sudden loss.
We invite you to read these stories for yourself and consider sharing your own response to the query. There’s a link below to our website, where all of the chapters are available, and a link below to the print version of Chapter 9 in PDF format.
Minding the Light is a bimonthly publication of West Hills Friends, a Quaker meeting in Portland, Oregon. Using the guidelines of "worship sharing," we invite members and attenders to reflect on a specific query for each chapter. Earlier queries have been: When did you first recognize the Light? When has your longing for God's Presence been unfulfilled? When have you experienced God’s presence in nature? When have you experienced God’s presence through a stranger? When has God made you laugh? What experience comes to mind when you hear the phrase, “Sacred Space”? When has following the Light led you to a change of heart, despite initial resistance? What’s something you have created in response to the Light Within?
Blessings!
