Daily Bible Reading: Psalms 66-67 and Matthew 7

Psalm 66 – “Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people. He made a dry path through the Red Sea, and his people went across on foot . . . For by his great power he rules forever. He watches every movement of the nations; let no rebel rise in defiance” (66:5-7).

“Our lives are in his hands, and he keeps our feet from stumbling” (66:9).

“You captured us in your net and laid the burden of slavery on our backs. Then you put a leader over us. We went through fire and flood, but you brought us to a place of great abundance” (66:11-12).

“If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me” (66:18-20).

Psalm 67 – “May your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere. May the nations praise you, O God. Yes, may all the nations praise you. Let the whole world sing for joy, because you govern the nations with justice and guide the people of the whole world” (67:2-4).

Matthew 7 – “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged” (7:1).

[F]irst take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye” (7:5).

Don’t throw your pearls before swine. “Ask and it will be given you; search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you” (7:7). “In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets” (7:12).

Enter God’s Kingdom through the narrow gate. “The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it” (7:13-14).

“Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act” (7:15).

Not everyone who says Lord, Lord, will enter God’s kingdom, “but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven” (7:21). On that day many will claim to have prophesied in Jesus’ name, but “I will declare to them, ’I never knew you. . .’” (7:23).

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock” (7:24-25).

“But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand”  (7:26).

When people hear Jesus’ teaching, they are astounded for he taught like one having authority.
