I am the founder and executive director of The Metaphor Project. We assist Quakers, progressives, and liberals in framing their messages for mainstream people. For example, I led a special interest group at the 2012 Pacific Yearly Meeting called "Friendly Persuasion Today." It demonstrated the Quaker roots of my Metaphor Project's process.
Hi Susan. Yes, it is true, one way to say it as William does, is that liberals Friends do not have exclusive rights to the Society of Friends. I am not ashamed to talk often and openly of Jesus Christ. But again, I am not ashamed to say often and openly that my understanding of Jesus Christ and how are we to then live differs from the teachings of mainstream Protestant Faiths and from Fundamentalism.
This may sound harsh and I will say it with a bit of humor that cannot be seen on a blog post.
I usually leave liberal Friends gatherings gasping for air, feeling I have been in a dry place. Of course it is peaceful to sit in quiet with kindly, good-hearted people. I may feel calm in my body and mind. But if all I need is to sit in quiet with good-hearted, educated, progressively-thinking people, I might as well sit in the library for just about the same experience!
People may come to Friends Meetings because they have rightfully been offended by false Christianity and therefore cannot tolerate the taste of anything seasoned with Christ. However, it is done Christ that has offended them but mislead Christians and Apostate Christianity.
There is one who can speak to our conditions, even, Christ Jesus!
Several of us are trying to rescue Quakerism from the liberals. Or at least to make them aware that they don't have exclusive ownership rights to the Society of Friends. What can you do to help us??? -)
Did you know that QuakerQuaker is 100% reader supported? Our costs run to about $50/month. If you think this kind of outreach and conversation is important, please support it with a monthly subscription or one-time gift.

"However, it is NOT Christ who has offended them." (I have vision difficulties, I am correcting what I wrote below.)
