I am now halfway through a two year period in which I decided to take the big step to release myself from work commitments to explore the reasons post-christian generations are not responding like generations before them to the message of Friends.
This is a purely personal journey I feel I have a leading to take, I have to coin a Friends phrase had "serious nudgings" for the last few years.
Over the last eighteen month I have tried to go beyond theory and get into very practical ways of contributing to the emergent / convergent conversation among Friends. I am discovering that there is no right way or model to follow.
But there maybe could be something better ...
I'm looking at how Friends could return to being once more a raw, historical, un-apologetically sacred, Jesus focused and outward looking community.
With the support of my releasing community of Friends, the journey has brought me into contact with Friends and Seekers, who have opened up their homes sharing life, food and conversations together.
This summer a group of us came together after much discerning and testing to form a new Friends community here in the UK -
Friends of the Light.
Friends of the Light is an independent community of Friends and Seekers who are Passionately Christian and Passionately Inclusive, our community aims to explore and live-out what this means in our lives here and now.
I have also been working on a new blog called
The Barefoot Friend which I hope will go live in 2013. The blog hopes to share the story of the new community as we grow in our walk with Christ.
I hope to share more here on Quaker Quaker as the story unfolds. :-)
" raw, historical, unapologetically sacred, Jesus focused..." with words like this - let me extend to you a very warm welcome.
Nodoubt the passion is strong in you! Again Welcome and I hope your journey proves to be a most fruitful one. I look forward to your involvement and your overall enjoyment here too.
Did you know that QuakerQuaker is 100% reader supported? Our costs run to about $50/month. If you think this kind of outreach and conversation is important, please support it with a monthly subscription or one-time gift.
