Hi Jennifer! I read your article on you belief regarding Jesus and really enjoyed it. It mirrors much of my background before becoming a Quaker many years ago. I am associated with Midlothian Friends Meeting, which is just outside of Richmond VA. It has been a deeply meaningful experience for me mainly because the meeting has a good number of Christians, as well as every other label you could think of. While I no longer label myself a "Christian", like many in my meeting, I do say I am a practicer of Jesus' teachings, and like you I have a personal relationship with him on some mystical level. I posted this article (below) in the Liberal Quaker group of QuakerQuaker some years ago in an attempt to explain how important Jesus is to many liberal Quakers - contrary to what some evangelical and conservative Quakers think. My meeting is very 'into' the spirit of Jesus (as it is also 'into' the spirit of other deep spiritual teachers such as Buddha, Lao Tzu, Gandhi, and others who manifest the Light). I believe Jesus would be (is) quite at home with us. Liberal Quakers and Jesus
Welcome to Maryland, Jennifer! I was born in the DC area, grew up going to Sandy Spring Friends and have remained a member there. It has been my Meeting except for the six years I lived in Atlanta. My husband and I were married in the Meeting's care and both of our kids are members. My parents were both raised Southern Baptist, actually met at a SB student retreat and then became convinced Friends together while they were dating. I hope that you are finding good connections at Patapsco!
