About Me
Quaker living in Iceland.

A little introduction...

My name's David and I'm a Quaker living in Iceland. As far as I'm aware there are no other Quakers here...anyone care to prove me wrong? I'd love to start a small worship group!

I'm a bit liberal and a bit conservative - liberal in the sense that I'm gay and I don't feel like I'm going to burn in Hell for it, conservative in the sense that I'm quite traditional, I do like the concept of Plain dress and I do class myself as Christian.

Anyhow, I'm here to meet Friends and it would be lovely to hear from anybody, especially if you're isolated like myself. It'd be fun to share stories! :-)

A brief introduction to Quakerism in Icelandic

Posted on 5th mo. 13, 2014 at 2:37pm 2 Comments

This is a rather random thing to post, but I'm hoping to bring some Icelandic seekers to quakerquaker.org and I wanted them to be able to find some info in Icelandic. I wrote it on an electronic typewriter then superimposed pretty things onto it in paint.net :-D It was fun!…

Dear David,

are you still running the Café?  I know some people visiting Iceland, and they were at my Quaker wedding last year.

With regards

Christopher

Sweet! Thanks for accepting the friend request. I wish you the best in setting up a meeting. At the moment, I'm without a home meeting myself and am a "new" Friend as of this past summer. If anyone there is interested in touching base, just stop on by. In time, who knows? Maybe we could set up some type of "skype" meeting or gatherings to share what it means to be a Friend. I could try to round up some folks here in Philadelphia. Could be cool. I don't really know much at this point and it would be great to learn from other folks.

Be Well, Bill

Hello, David Anthony!  I don't think I ever welcomed you to QQ, even though you have been involved for awhile.  I guess it's time to break the ice!!  I appreciate your Christian commitment and your straightforward style.

I am curious about how you managed to settle in Iceland.

Dear Christopher,

Thank you so much! You're right, Iceland is getting around 1.000.000 tourists per year now - at least some of them must be Friends, right? :-)

Any support for our little group would be wonderful and very much appreciated. We hold our meetings on the last Saturday of each month at a very liberal Lutheran church in Reykjavík, called Laugarneskirkja. When people minister it's usually in Icelandic, but I'm sure a special exception would be made if there were visitors ;-)

Convergent Friends...I like that. You're right, it describes my own path perfectly. Looking back, moving forward :-) I take so much inspiration from Primitive Friends, but I do so like to be inclusive. Thanks for introducing me to a new term! I'll be using it from now on ;-)

Again, thank you for your help and kindness.

In Friendship,

David

Hi David,

sounds as if you might be/are a convergent Friend. Were it is Ok to be passionality Christian, interested / influenced by Conservative Friends, but also passionately inclusive.

I also call my a convergent Friend, working at undoing my own oppressions / aware of my white male heterosexual privileges, whilst working to undo the yolks/bonds around the necks of others. I am also inviting as many people as possible to join the Lords supper (Luke - Parable of the feast, and Isaiah 58 plus Micah 6:8 are my major influences here).
If you want I can help you via EMES to publicise your worship group. This might be helpful especially as Iceland does get a few visitors.

David,
I live in Eastern Montana. No one around me either. I think there are a few in Billings Montana but that is 4 hours away. I read anything I can about Quakers. I visit the Pendle Hill sight frequently. I've taken a course on line. It's been a lonely type journey but I believe in this so much I continue. I've also even pinned on Pinterest to learn as much as I can. Many interesting people are Quaker. Let me know if you may , if you should start something. I would be interested.
