Paula in her cap from Katie's Mercantile Side View Better

Learning to wear my cap! I've taken to either putting my dreadlocks into two giant braids and wrapping them around each other at the nape of my neck, or putting them into two giant cornrows to the same effect. The cap fits much better this way. It is very tidy. I've gone back and bought more!

Are these the pins?http://www.christiancoverings.com/item_8/Homemade-Hair-Pins.html

Gathered bonnet with tapered brim http://www.christiancoverings.com/item_46/Gathered-Bonnet-with-Tape... looks very tidy.

The Mary covering http://www.christiancoverings.com/item_26/Mary.html does indeed look slippery.

Talk to you soon.

Rats! I tried to put a pic of the hairpins here, but it didn't take. I am technologically challenged.
You can find them at:

or at:

which is also where I got my caps, a "gathered bonnet with tapered brim" in white and a "Mary "in brown (almost the color of my hair, so it looks very unobtrusive).
The Mary cap is a slippery fabric and my hair is slippery, so I may have to wrestle with this to get it to work, but I do like a good challenge.

I just took one out of my bun to examine and it doesn't bend easily, and it's three inches long, I think it could handle dreadlocks.

Indeed, the caps are a good invention. I have basic "white child hippie hair", it just wants to hang there in the way and makes me look like a cartoon orphan or something, it does not stay combed, or take a curl or anything interesting. Plus it makes my neck hot....aaaarrrrghhhh!!!! Bundling it up our of my way is great!
Will find a link to the hair pins, and will put pics of the caps when we get back from South Bend (we're going up in the morning to bury my boyfriend's mom's ashes).

Cool! Link us some pictures of the caps! I'm definitely going to need hairpins but dreadlocks pretty much break most hair things. Tell me more about those Amish pins. Can you link me to a picture of them? I think you're going to find these caps are very tidy and probably the best thing you've done with your hair in a while.

My caps have arrived. (thank you Christian Coverings!)
I definitely need to work on the best thing to do with my hair, and I hope with practice I'll become more graceful at getting the cap on, right now I'm plenty awkward.
I got some of the Amish hairpins, made of very strong stainless steel. They are Wonderful! I can do up my bun with three of these pins rather than the handful of drugstore ones I used to use. And they don't bend out of shape, like the wimpy metal ones or break like the plastic. Plus, I really like non-plastic things.

I definitely have slippery hair. Rats! When my caps come I'll just have to experiment until I get it figured out. Meanwhile I'll practice a bit with a non-slippery kerchief.

I will now go google around a bit and see if I can find those tutorials.

Thank you ladies!

There are tutorials online about how to fasten one's hair (what I have seen is for people with medium length straight hair) under a cap. I looked, because this was something I had not been taught, growing up. The method that looked the best to me is one that I have not been able to master yet.

Hi Leslie. The cap does not slip. My hair is thicker and curlier than yours by virtue of ethnicity (in your avatar you look to be white?) so I cannot attest to how it would behave on your hair. I use no pins. There is definitely a learning curve. I started out by just stuffing my dreadlocks under the cap and have graduated to the braids that wrap around each other. I'd never actually braided my hair like that before either.

Mmm, nice. Eager for mine to get here, so I can see if I can figure out what to do with them. Hoping I can anchor my hair in a flatter bun than I've ever made so far, so it won't look life a goofy off-center lump under my cap.
Does the top of the cap slip at all? Do you need to pin it in place or anything? I am sooooo lacking in skills in the whole cap/scarf/bonnet/ area, and for that matter in hair at all. It's like I'm going back to learn a chapter I skipped in Girlhood 101.

There are self ties that do tie at the nape. Isn't it cool? I was looking at it just to be tidy when I'm working around the house. You can see from my avatar that I have very long dreadlocks. I spoke to Cindi at Katie's Mercantile and she assured me they would fit. I was skeptical but I bought one. Now I have 4!
