There's a story I once came across about an early Friend, and I can't remember which one, or where I saw it. Here's the story: this Friend was preaching to a crowd about living nonviolently. A man in the crowd said, "That all sounds very nice, as long as the rest of the world lives that way too." This Friend answered (along the lines of) "We are agreed then that we should live according to the Spirit of Peace. But you are of a mind to be the last man on earth to live so, whereas I am of a mind to be among the first."

Does anyone recognize this story? Do you know who the Friend was, and can you direct me to a reference for the quote? I'm guessing Edward Burrough.
