Event Description

The 2009 Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) Section of the Americas Annual Meeting will be held on March 19-22 at Canby Grove Christian Camp and Conference Center in Canby, Oregon, about 40 miles south of Portland.

The purpose of FWCC is to encourage fellowship among all the branches of the Religious Society of Friends. The Annual Meeting is the business meeting of Friends representing affiliated yearly meetings in the Americas and other interested Friends. It is also an opportunity for worship and fellowship with the wider Quaker world. Thus, business sessions, worship groups, regional meetings and workshops are conducted bilingually and open to all. The keynote address will be offered by Jan Wood of Northwest Yearly Meeting on the evening of Friday, March 20.

There will ALSO be an interest group (hopefully not too late) on Saturday evening hosted by myself offering information and outreach for the Ramallah Friends School in Ramallah, Palestine. I visited the Friends School after attending a Christian Peacemaker Teams delegation to Israel and Palestine in December 2008. I will be showing pictures from my trip, and the Friends School in particular, to help contextualize it within the region and offer a human connection to the good work that goes on there.

There will also be a late night interest group with Gregg Koskela and me about Quaker blogging as a form of ministry for the blogger, the reader and the commenter, and how Quaker blogs are already part of the informal interaction between the branches of Friends.
