Well, I got to start somewhere...

Several people at the San Francisco Meeting recommended I read "Friends for 300/350 years". Another recommendation was the "Pacific Yearly Meeting Faith and Practice". Guess I have some good reading ahead huh?!

I also signed up for the UK's Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre's "Becoming Friend" introduction to Quakerism.

It is an interesting course.

Seeing I am not really familiar with Christianity, I have been doing some reading about Jesus. I read a book called "Rabbi Jesus" by Bruce Chilton. I found the book interesting. He paints a picture of a Jesus that is different then what I grew up hearing about. I am thinking that I need to read a overview of Judaism. Seems that if one is to understand Jesus' message, having an understanding of the spiritual community he grew up in and the people he was addressing would be important.

Thoughts and recommendations?

God is here to teach us, to point us to appropriate next steps!

What Jesus was actually doing at the time... is a vast and frequently bewildering thing to study; be prepared for conceptional flips: like looking at that old drawing of the old lady with the nose which is really a drawing of the young lady with the neck, unless I've got this backwards...

A couple books, maybe: One God Clapping by Alan Lew and Stalking Elijah by Rodger Kamenetz. (sp?) Not because you'll understand it all after reading them, but because they're really good!

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked up both books on Amazon and found others that looked interesting too. I better read what I got first! :)

For Jewish theology, I recommend  God in Search of Man and Man is Not Alone  by Abrahan Joshua Heschel.
