After playing soccer for many years, I have what I would call a trick knee. If I run on it for any period of time, it swells. Then I'm left with stiffness and pain for the rest of  the day. But if I don't get extended walking time each day, I'm awakened in the night with something like restless-leg syndrome.

Needless to say, this summer's extended hell(heat and humidity) has not helped me get extended walking time. Sure, there's always walking, rather than taking the car, to short errands and climbing the stairs more often to compensate for a lack of regular exercise; but there's always a better reason, as an excuse, not to over-exert myself in the wake of nature's burning wrath.

So, just as I can't run through frequent prayerful meditation without experiencing stiffness and pressure-pain that affects my day, I can't miss out, even while attending to life chores, on it either - without suffering restless nights.

I guess the trick to prayer for spiritual health and well-being is as simple as the trick knee is to my physical health and rest. Just beware the Trickster that offers ice(easy relief) with the heat and a gurney(hand basket) through the sleepless living hell of drugged distraction.
