How have you experienced God's Presence in nature?

Greetings, Friends!

Chapter 3 of Minding the Light: Our Collective Journal is now available online. For this chapter, we invited Friends to respond to the query, "How have you experienced God's presence in nature?" We received sixteen personal stories and some gorgeous original photographs.

Minding the Light is published bimonthly by West Hills Friends, a Quaker meeting in Portland, Oregon. Using the guidelines of "worship sharing," we invite members…

"Remeber who you are...."

About 6 years ago I did a lot of yoga. And I mean A LOT. At least three times a week. I remember during one of the quiet meditative sessions that a voice very clearly spoke up in myself. It said, "Remember who you are". It was a troubled time in my life. I was heading towards another binge stage of my alcoholism, smoking a lot of pot, eating very poorly and running myself ragged through work among other things. That was a turning point though. It has taken me the last 6 years to really begin…

A Reprint of "A Guide To True Peace" Now Available

A New Reprint of “A Guide To True Peace”

There are several publishing ventures which have taken advantage of new technology and publish reprints of older books and make them available again to a new generation.  These older books are now in the public domain and thus can be copied freely.  The new technologies consist of computer scanning techniques and print-on-demand computer storage.  This means that the reprint houses do not have to incur the costs of a large inventory;…

Inward Listening in Faithful Service

... listening in prayer is necessary as you learn how to see, test, taste, and value your ministry—the nature of the gift, and of your stewardship of it. You should seek to be able to pray honestly about your service, and expect to be shown what is missing, what is worth preserving, and what is to be rejected. As ever, the first motion is to wait until you can feel the cool, quiet, strong flow of light and love. … —Brian Drayton. On Living with a Concern for Gospel Ministry, 2006,…

Emily's at Camp

Listen!

I talk with two Emily's about how their summers at Quaker camps shaped the people they are today.  The first Emily attended Camp Dark Waters with me, and shares how the experience showed it her what it meant to be valued; the second featured Emily (Emily Higgs) speaks of how her years at Camp Catoctin in Maryland influenced her religious…

Signs of These Times

Make your signs beautiful, for God to see.

They are prayers, not to be wasted

on that gang of lying brats who swindle us of power;

they're for that starved angel they keep

chained in the national basement.

Make your signs bright, for the blind to read

and don't expect victory, just miracles.

Don't demand peace or call loudly for justice.

Beg mercy. Our nation's trial

is now in the sentencing phase.…

raicescuaqueras.org

Susan Furry and Benigno Sánchez-Eppler have been translating Quaker texts into Spanish for a while. We have finally taken the plunge and have started to make some of our work available at our own domain

raicescuaqueras.org

We would rather be translating, instead of self-publishing and are looking for Friends who may be lead to work with us at the publication side of our ministry.

If we got the right help we may be able to disseminate the whole mess of stuff we…
